Child Find

All children with disabilities residing in Montgomery County who are in need of special education and related services are identified and evaluated by Montgomery County Schools. This includes children who are homeless and children with disabilities attending private schools.

Birth to Kindergarten:

The Child Find unit provides free developmental screenings for children from three years of age to kindergarten age.

Child Find is also the single point of entry for families moving into Montgomery County whose preschool age child was previously identified with a disability in another state or another county in Maryland.

Non-Resident families with children who attend a preschool or child care center located in Montgomery County may also contact the Child Find unit regarding developmental concerns about their child.

Parents of children between birth and two years, 10 months of age should contact Montgomery County Infants and Toddlers Program to request an evaluation if they have concerns about their child’s development at 240-777-3997.

Kindergarten to Age 21:

Parents of students in kindergarten through age 21 should contact their neighborhood school to request an evaluation.
