Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month on Thursday, May 29, with a program recognizing the contributions, culture and resilience of the AAPI community.

The event, held at the Carver Educational Services Center Auditorium, was themed “Honoring the Legacy of Our Resilience.” It brought together staff, students and community members for an evening of reflection and recognition.

The celebration included a staff appreciation program followed by the Asian Pacific American Student Achievement Action Group (APASAAG) Student Poster Art Contest Award Ceremony, which honored student artists whose work explored themes of identity, heritage and perseverance.

Student performances were featured from Spark M. Matsunaga Elementary School, Natyabhoomi School of Dance, Peace Mission Korean Dance Group: Fan Dance & Buk Drums and US White Tiger Martial Arts.

The celebration was part of MCPS’ ongoing efforts to honor the diverse backgrounds and experiences of its student and staff population, including the contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
